Description
A tall, tufted, perennial, scented grass with a straight stem, long narrow leaves and an abundant complex of underground white roots.
Characteristics
A deep smoky and earthy aroma used as a fixative – very potent.
Method of extraction
Steam distillation.
General
Botanically related to Lemongrass and Citronella. The roots have been used in the past for its fragrance. The root is considered an emblem of vitality. Roots are woven into fans, screens and mats in India and Sri Lanka.
Blends well with
Frankincense, Geranium, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Lemon, Lavender, Patchouli, Rose, Rosewood, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang.
Indications
Mind & Spirit –Referred to as the oil of tranquility and may be used as protection against oversensitivity. Apply to the solar plexus to prevent psychic sponge – considered classic for physical, mental and emotional burnout which may result in exhaustion. A very grounding and centering oil. Pacifies stress and tension.
Body – Useful for PMS, boosting to the hormones during menopause.
Skin & Hair – Nourishing and moisturizing to the skin and recommended for dry, dehydrated and irritated skins. Reduces wrinkles due to vulnerary and cicatrizing properties (improves tone of slack or tired looking skin).
